Frustrated

There are so many things that can frustrate us.  We don’t have room to list them all.  Gratitude can cover all of them if we allow it to.  It isn’t easy when you have so many things going on that you cannot do anything about.  But, and that is a big but, you can work at gratitude.  Little things can get you frustrated as well as big things.

Personally, when you are old, you can’t do the things you used to do.  You don’t have the strength to open a jar, let alone keep up the regular chores you used to do in a few hours.  Most of time your mind is working well.  You forget a word or what you wanted a minute ago, and then it comes to you.  Magic!  Kidding aside, old folks have a lot to offer.  Just bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, ‘Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Against such there is no law.’  Show all these attributes and no law will come against you.

I am frustrated with myself because of the things that I cannot do for myself.  Part of my fence blew down in a storm and my grandson had to put it back.  I am repairing it so it is usable again, but it takes time.  I do have time, but cutting the grass (a three hour job) now takes three days.  Cleaning the house also takes three days instead of a few hours and on and on the list grows.

Having a sense of humor is a great help.  When the younger generation makes fun of you smile.  You get out of breath easier, you have aches and pains you never had, you just plain run out of steam faster than you used to.  But take heart!  Put the fruit of the Spirit to work for you.  Laugh at yourself when made fun of, smile a lot, be kind, and trust God to lead you to get things done.  He will not frustrate us when we look to Him.

This is a good reminder for all us seniors, we all get frustrated at times because we can not do the things we used to do , as fast, as when we were younger. And the help is not always there when we need it. Gratitude is a good way to ward off the self-pity parties we all fall prey to at times.
